Volunteers are valued members of the South Lane Wheels team.

Thank you for considering applying for a volunteer postion at South Lane Wheels, whether just for a summer event or for ongoing projects we appricate all our volunteers.

Our Volunteer tasks are varied, the work environment is pleasant and you would be a part of an energetic, highly creative team. Your skills can make a big difference to our agency plus you have an opportunity to learn new skills. There is no minimum commitment and projects can be arranged for groups of volunteers

Ongoing Volunteer Opportunities

 

Volunteer Office Assistant (Angel)

The Volunteer Office Assistant provides support for a variety of clerical duties, such as file maintenance, copying, collating, mass mailings, data entry and special projects for our office. You can be using, and learning, computer programs such as Microsoft Office applications. Expand your office expertise while helping South Lane Wheels assist the community with their transportation needs. The Volunteer Office Assistant must be able to honor confidentiality.

Volunteer Community Relations Representative

The Volunteer Community Relations Representative will provide support for, and work with the Development Director to generate publicity in the newspaper, radio and television. Duties may include preparation of the news releases, preparation of quarterly newsletters and presentations to local groups.

The Community Relations Representative will be willing and able to work with others on projects, be friendly and personable, and be familiar with basic database and word processing programs. The Community Relations Representative must be able to honor confidentiality.

Volunteer Coordinator

This part-time position will assist in the development of a milti-faceted volunteer program: recruiting, placing, orienting, sustaining, and recognizing volunteers. The Volunteer Coordinator would also compile statistics, write thank you letters and perform light clerical duties.

A volunteer coordinator will be willing and able to work with others on projects, be friendly and personable, and be somewhat familiar with basic database and word processing programs.

Volunteer Membership Coordinator

The Volunteer Membership Coordinator will provide support and work with the Development Director to generate new and maintain existing memberships in South Lane Wheels. Duties may include preparation of election ballots, quarterly newsletters, distribution of the Annual Report and annual meeting invitations, and maintenance of membership lists. The Membership Coordinator must be able to honor confidentiality.

The Membership Coordinator will be willing and able to work with others on projects, be friendly and personable, and be familiar with basic database and word processing programs.

Volunteer Assistant Event Coordinator

The Assistant Event Coordinator will assist with one (or more) major events a year that would serve the dual purpose of raising public awareness of the agency and raising funds for operating expenses.

An Assistant Event Organizer is an enthusiastic, creative and pro-active person with some knowledge of organizing events. Back-up volunteers will be available from within existing our volunteer pool.

Volunteer Fundraising Team Member

The Volunteer Fundraising Team Member will provide support for and work with the Development Director to generate new and maintain existing fundraising efforts for South Lane Wheels. The Volunteer Fundraising Team Member must be able to honor confidentiality.

The Volunteer Fundraising Team Member will be willing and able to work with others on projects, be friendly and personable, and be familiar with basic database and word processing programs

Volunteer Maintenance (Carpentry) Aide

'Jack of all trades' needed. Help with facilities repairs, construction, painting, carpentry, washing windows, repairing equipment, moving items to and from storage. Some experience necessary. Keep our building and grounds safe and healthy for staff, visitors, and clients. This position is suitable for the 'home tinkerer' and up through the experienced maintenance professional. Minimum requirements are ability to handle tools, including power tools. Training is on-the-job.

Come join in, have fun. It is physical work, but not too strenuous. Wear appropriate clothes, gloves and sturdy boots.

Vantastic Van Washer

This is a neat opportunity for those who like quick results for a job well done. The volunteer(s) would be responsible for washing and cleaning the interior and exterior of small and large (14 passenger) vans. We provide the hoses, buckets, rags and vacuum and you provide the enthusiasm and labor. This could be a weekly, monthly or one time project. Our volunteers should be detail-oriented, energetic individuals who work well on their own once given directions. No training is necessary for this position. Volunteers should be comfortable using a small ladder for reaching the roof of the van and wear appropriate clothing.

Volunteer Vehicle Maintenance Aide

Help maintain and service our vans and busses. This position is suitable for the novice mechanic through an experienced vehicle maintenance professional. It involves greasing and cleaning, systems checks and other related small tasks. Volunteers providing major maintenance and/or repairs must be able to demonstrate their knowledge of the trade and be able to work with minimal supervision.  Come join in, have fun. It is physical work, but not too strenuous. Wear appropriate clothes, gloves and sturdy boots.

Volunteer Ground Maintenance (Landscaper)

Nature/outdoors-loving person wanted for weeding, raking, pruning and planting for our landscaping. You will also maintain parking lot and clean sidewalks. Come join in, have fun. It is physical work, but not too strenuous. Wear work clothes, gloves, and appropriate footwear. Training is on-the-job.

Volunteer Driver

South Lane Wheels seeks volunteers to drive our vans as they take clients to the doctor's office, grocery shopping, exercise classes, run errands, and other essential services. Drivers also drive groups on mini-trips to the coast, into Eugene or other locations for social activities.

Volunteers receive training from South Lane Wheels. Drivers must be able to pass a driving and criminal background check and pass a drug test. Current CPR and First Aid certifications are required, provided through South Lane Wheels. We can accommodate your daytime schedule. This is a wonderful opportunity to become acquainted with Cottage Grove residents while serving the community. Skills required: Current drivers license, Current CPR and First Aid certifications. Driving, map reading. Cheerful, helpful, with desire to share your smile and good will.
